How Word ↔ PDF Conversion Works
EazyStudio uses LibreOffice in headless (server-side, no GUI) mode to perform conversions. LibreOffice is the same open-source office suite behind Google Docs' export engine and is used by organisations worldwide for reliable document processing.
Word → PDF
Your DOCX/DOC file is parsed and rendered using LibreOffice's layout engine, which produces a pixel-accurate PDF with embedded fonts. Tables, images, headers, footers, and page breaks are all preserved exactly as they appear in Word.
PDF → Word
LibreOffice extracts the text, images, and structural layout from the PDF and reconstructs them as a DOCX file. Complex PDFs (scanned documents, forms with graphics) may have imperfect reconstruction, but text-based PDFs convert very accurately. The resulting DOCX is fully editable in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, or LibreOffice Writer.
Tips for best results
Use standard fonts (Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri) to ensure they render correctly in the output.
For PDF → Word, text-heavy PDFs convert most accurately. Scanned PDFs require OCR (not included).
Files up to 30 MB are supported. Very long documents may take 15–30 seconds to process.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will my document formatting be preserved?
For Word → PDF, formatting is preserved very accurately — including fonts, tables, images, and page layout. For PDF → Word, simple text-based PDFs convert well, but complex layouts (multi-column, heavily designed documents) may need minor adjustments after conversion.
Can I convert a scanned PDF to Word?
Scanned PDFs are images, not text, so direct conversion produces a DOCX with an embedded image rather than editable text. For editable output from a scanned PDF, you need OCR (Optical Character Recognition) first. We're working on adding OCR support.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes — 30 MB per file. For larger files, consider splitting the document first or upgrading to Pro which supports priority processing.
How many conversions can I do for free?
Guest users get 2 conversions per day per direction. Free account holders get 5. Pro users get unlimited conversions — see plans.
What Word formats are supported?
DOCX (Word 2007+), DOC (older Word format), ODT (LibreOffice/OpenDocument), and RTF (Rich Text Format) are all supported for conversion to PDF.
Is my document stored on your servers?
No. Your file is uploaded to a temporary directory, converted, returned to your browser as a download, and then immediately deleted. We never read, index, or retain your documents.
