Image Format Comparison Guide

Choosing the right image format makes a significant difference to file size, quality and compatibility. WebP is 25–35% smaller than JPEG at equivalent quality and supports transparency, making it the best choice for most web use. PNG is lossless and ideal for logos, icons and screenshots. JPEG is the universal standard for photographs. AVIF is the newest format — even smaller than WebP but with limited browser support on older devices. The Smart Mode in this tool automatically picks WebP for opaque images and PNG for images with transparency.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many images can I convert at once?

Guest users can convert up to 5 images per batch. Free account holders can convert up to 10 images at once. Pro subscribers get unlimited batch conversion with no restrictions.

Will converting from PNG to JPEG lose quality?

Converting from PNG (lossless) to JPEG (lossy) will result in some quality loss, especially in areas with sharp edges and text. The quality slider controls how much — 90% or above is usually indistinguishable from the original. JPEG does not support transparency, so any transparent areas will be filled with white.

Is the conversion done in the browser or on a server?

100% in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas API. Your images are never uploaded to or processed on any server. Conversion is instant and completely private.
